This past Saturday, 11 volunteers worked tirelessly for several hours to help move rubble at Pon Pon Chapel of Ease in Jacksonboro.
Coordinated by the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society (CCHAPS), this was the third workday following the collapse of the top portion of the front façade in early July. To date, the investigation is still ongoing as to what caused the partial collapse.
According to Christie Slocum, vice president of CCHAPS, once all the debris has been removed, a plan will be developed in coordination with experts on how best to move forward with the effort to rebuild and reconstruct Pon Pon.
“We accomplished so much in our third mini-work day thanks to the efforts of 11 volunteers, all from Colleton County,” said Slocum. “Only a small pile of rubble remains. We are so thankful for those that gave their time to help clean up the debris.
