Perfect odds: With God all is possible

Are you reading the Bible through with me? Grab your pen and journal, and get ready to write your thoughts as you journey through the Bible. Today read Judges 7-9. In chapter 7, God reduced Gideon’s military force before allowing him to do battle with the Midianites. At the start of God’s purging, Gideon’s armed forces were outnumbered four to one. But God had a plan. He began having Gideon send men home until the odds were 45 to one! These were perfect odds for Yahweh! When God chooses to do a miraculous work in your life, He might reduce your available resources to demonstrate that He is your Power, Provider, and Protector. When God has called you to do something or go somewhere, just obey. Think of the blessings and wonders that Gideon would have missed had he simply said no to God and run away in fear knowing he was so terribly outnumbered. Although Gideon offered distractions and excuses at first, he listened and obeyed when God simply said: “You will rescue Israel from Midian with the strength you have. I am sending you.” In your journal write about a time when you faced tremendous odds, but God pulled you through. If you have never faced odds like Gideon, write a personal note to God promising Him that you will trust and obey when He calls you. Just like the old hymn, trust and obey. All God wants from you is availability. When He calls, He equips and empowers for victory….no matter what the odds are! PRAY: El Gibbor-our Conquering God, how reassuring to know that whenever You call, obedience results in victory regardless of the odds against us. Remind me often that achieving a victorious life in Christ is not because of my talent, experience, connections, or knowledge. It happens only as I yield wholeheartedly to You. When faced with what might seem impossible odds, help me to remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 19:26- “With man this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”
