The crowd was standing room only and was also on a Zoom call for those who could not attend. Also featured were the Colleton County Band of Blue percussion line and a balloon release outside at the conclusion of the program. It was a banner day for LCAA Head Start.
Head Start is a national, federally funded program that promotes school readiness for children birth to age five by supporting their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Programs partner with families to provide high-quality education, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services so children begin school ready to learn. At LCAA, services are designed to support the whole child and the whole family through:
Early learning and school readiness: developmentally appropriate curriculum, individualized learning plans, inclusive practices.
Health and nutrition: developmental screenings, connection to medical/dental homes, nutritious meals and snacks
Family and community engagement: goal setting, referrals, case management, parent leadership opportunities, and community partnerships
Social services and stability supports: information and referrals, counseling and training, and assistance navigating community resources.
Families may enroll based on income and other factors consistent with federal head Start regulations. LCAA prioritizes children and families with the greatest need to ensure equitable access to high-quality early childhood services.
For over five decades, LCAA had partnered with families, schools, health providers, and community organizations to help children thrive and to strengthen the wellbeing of Colleton and Hampton County communities.
