Live Oak Cemetery held its quarterly board meeting on April 29, at the Colleton County Library. The meeting was called to order. John Hiott Jr. was welcomed as a new member of the board.
Data entry into the CemSite system is progressing well. Currently over 4,000 graves have been added to the online database.
It was reported that there have been several requests for sites for burials. There was a discussion about the need to identify the current right holders for the lots and the need to request community assistance in locating the lot owners.
The board reiterated that it is the responsibility of each lot owner to maintain their own lots. Each year, the Board has a general cleanup in the fall and spring. The general clean-ups are supported by donations which can be made to Live Oak Cemetery, P. O. Box 1351, Walterboro, SC 29488.
The clean-up led to the discussion about the debris generated by the lot owners. The roads are narrow and it is difficult for equipment to move around to remove the debris and to keep from damaging grave sites. A motion was moved and approved by the Board to ask lot owners to remove debris from the cemetery and deposit it in designated areas for removal. Signage will be installed to reiterate this policy and sites for debris pick up will be marked with yellow signs.
The board has requested that if you have any information on current right holder or questions about the cemetery please call or text 843-898-6341 or email at LiveOakCemetery.WSC@gmail.com
