Lions Club to hold its 61st Annual Pancake Supper

The Walterboro Lions Club will hold its 61st Harold Kane Memorial Pancake Supper on Thursday, February 26th. The annual event has been held at the Forest Hills Elementary School since its inception in 1965. Pancakes, sausage, and a drink will be served at the school from 5pm to 7pm. As always, the food will be available for dine in or take out, with all proceeds going to support club functions and scholarships. Tickets will be available at the door, at Hiotts Pharmacy, or from club members for five dollars.

The Lion’s Club held its monthly meeting at Dukes Bar B Que on Wednesday, February 12th at 1:00 PM. Bob Pence, Lions Club President opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.

The Club heard from Sheryl Gray, Executive Director of Colleton Cares, formally known as the Colleton County Board of Disabilities. Gray spoke about the services of the organizations, this includes 7 homes, 17 apartment to house clients, 2 CRC Homes (Community Residential Care Facilities), and Early Intervention Programs to assist Babies. Also with Gray was Tony Manigo, the Day Services Director, told the group about the day program with job placement assistance and services offered by the organization. This includes housekeeping services, yard services, litter pickup, and car washing.

Lions club members also discussed the eye screenings in the community last week. They held an eye screening at North Walterboro Christian Academy. The club holds eye screenings throughout Colleton County to assist in their ongoing mission to prevent blindness. The Lions Club sells brooms to support their community efforts, both household and warehouse brooms are available for sale at Hiotts Pharmacy.

The Lions Clubs Internationally are a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness, they are working with local partners to help provide the training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. They sponsor Camp Leo, a summer camp for Blind Children, the Storm Eye Institute, and a program that takes the blind fishing.

The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
