Walterboro woman says “Thank You”

Posted

It was 3:00 or so in the afternoon---just about the time school lets out and kids come home hungry and with lots of homework and news from their school day. With these kinds of responsibilities and after a long day of work, all anyone wants to do is get home. On Tuesday, though, Veronica and Janie didn’t think twice about putting their own needs on hold and helping a woman who was experiencing some kind of medical emergency. While one immediately called 911, the other tried to assess what I was experiencing. And although I, in my confused state, didn’t know what I was experiencing or even how to articulate what was happening, both Janie and Veronica remained calm and did everything to calm me.

They were compassionate, patient, and genuinely caring.

As if their giving was not already above and beyond, these women even went so far as to bring my vehicle over the to ER (so that it would not be left at the gas station parking lot for who knows how long). I can assure you this was a major inconvenience, as it meant, one person drove my car and the other follow to pick her up---yet another major inconvenience, and yet another example of these women’s caring nature.

I’d never seen these women before in my life, and I suspect they didn’t know me from a man on the moon. What they did know, however, is that their Christian spirit led them to see to the needs of a perfect stranger; what I came to know is that there are some incredibly loving people in this world . . . and right here in Walterboro, South Carolina.
