In His Name-Colleton is preparing to open the In His Name Community Food Pantry at 1013 South Jefferies Blvd. Walterboro, marking the first phase of a larger vision to create a community Mission Center serving individuals and families throughout Colleton County.
For more than a decade, In His Name-Colleton has provided meals, food assistance, case management, homeless outreach, and supportive services for neighbors experiencing homelessness, poverty, and crisis. As the organization has grown, so has the need for additional space and expanded services.
The Community Food Pantry will provide greater access to nutritious food in a welcoming environment while serving as the first step toward a future Mission Center. Future plans include expanded case management services, a community soup kitchen, spaces for community education and support, showers and laundry facilities for neighbors experiencing homelessness, and opportunities for volunteers to serve.
While pantry operations will begin at 1013 S. Jefferies Blvd., case management and supportive services will continue to operate from In His Name-Colleton’s office at 214 Wichman Street as renovations continue at the Mission Center.
“Our hope is that the Mission Center will be a place where people can come as they are, have their immediate needs met, and find support, encouragement, and hope for what comes next. We want it to be a place where our community can come together to serve others and share the love of Christ in a real and practical way.” said Amanda Herndon, Executive Director of In His Name-Colleton.
Board Chair Caroline Hooker added, “This Mission Center represents years of prayer, planning, and community support. We are grateful for everyone who has helped make this vision possible and look forward to serving Colleton County in even greater ways in the years ahead.”
In His Name-Colleton will share additional updates as renovations progress and preparations continue for the Community Food Pantry. Stay tuned for details about a grand opening for the Community Food Pantry planned for late summer or early fall.
