How Jesus Became Our Only Hope

Three things that God said to Moses in Leviticus that we should remember: 17:11. “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” 19:2 - The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.” 20:7-8 says, “Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy.”

Notice that Leviticus 17:11 tells us that there must be the shedding of blood for atonement to happen. A blood sacrifice is the only way to God. That is why Jesus would say, “I am the Way…” (John 14:6)

Sin separates us from a holy God. There are not enough good works to be done to tip God’s scale of justice in your favor. No one can be good enough. For that scale to tip into your direction requires confession, repentance, blood, and death. The author of Hebrews wrote in 10:8-10, “First He (the Lord Jesus) said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then He said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” In I Peter 3:18, Peter wrote – “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.”

For every person of every culture and race on every continent who does NOT yet follow Jesus, there is the need for “Atonement.” That is the theme of Leviticus chapters 1-17. What is atonement? It is reparation for a wrong committed or injury done. In Christian theology, it is the reconciliation of God and persons through the blood sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. He is the ONLY Way to heaven, the ONLY Way to a relationship with God that will be eternal in heaven, and the ONLY Truth as revealed in the Bible.

Why not confess your sinfulness, turn from a selfish approach to life, turn in faith to Jesus, and submit to Him as Lord of your life? Jesus is the Reason for the Season, but YOU are the reason He came!
