An Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) home was destroyed in a mid-day fire June 11th. At 11:27 a passing motorist reported to 9-1-1 that the porch of a house was on fire on Augusta Hwy. A second caller reported the house was well involved. CCFR arrived to the rural community about 10 minutes later to find the two story residence approximately 60% involved with flames coming from the windows and doors on both floors. One occupant was inside the building but escaped unharmed. The roof collapsed shortly after fire units arrived. Firefighters were on the scene for five hours. No injuries were reported. The occupants lost most of their belongings and the home received substantial damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family. The fire was determined to have started on the front porch. The cause is still under investigation.
