Genuine Love

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 1 Corinthians 13:6

Right now, our world has some strange ideas about what love is and what love is not. Maybe we are having a difficult time understanding love because our culture is struggling to understand truth. This world has affirmed that everyone has their own truth and love is whatever a person wants it to be. Believing this lie requires that we abandon the Bible, which I am not willing to do. The Bible teaches that delighting in evil cannot be love. True love is not a celebration of hedonism or selfishness. Most of what is called love these days is not love at all.

Love tells the truth. Real love warns of danger, even if the message is unpopular. Love unveils convenient deceptions and dethrones false gods. Real love can only be found where the truth is lifted up. Love always does what is in the best interest of others. If we genuinely love someone, we will help them grow closer to God, not join with them in their rebellion and disobedience. Genuine love is more fierce than our deepest passions because it always champions the truth.

Heavenly Father, please forgive us for calling evil good and labeling our selfishness as love. We have disobeyed You in our affections and failed to love rightly. Give us the courage to be bold and tell the truth to ourselves and those You have placed in our lives. Help us to repent where we have disobeyed You and learn to obey You. Teach us to enjoy the truth and follow Your ways. Bring us closer to You and give us Your peace. We surrender our lives to You. Be Lord of our lives, in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
