Fugitive apprehended after nationwide manhunt

The FBI, along with its federal and local law enforcement partners, arrested 34-year-old Michael Burham on a federal arrest warrant Wednesday following a days-long manhunt. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York issued a warrant for the unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Burham was also wanted for state warrants out of New York and Pennsylvania for sexual assault and kidnapping.

A large law enforcement in the Lowcountry to place to locate and arrest. Burham had reportedly been sighted multiple times in the following days in Berkeley County. Steve Jensen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Columbia division. credited cooperation between the community, federal, and local law enforcement for the apprehension. Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, North Charleston Police Department, Summerville Police Department, City of Charleston Police Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department were the Lowcountry agencies who assisted in the search for Burham along with several federal agencies. Burham will be extradited to New York to face his charges.
