First Responders have a Joyous Thanksgiving

Posted

On duty Colleton First responders had a more joyous Thanksgiving thanks to two Orangeburg County men. The emergency responders were on duty Thanksgiving Day and away from their families. Josh Mitchum and Charlie Johnson felt the need to give back to those serving their communities. The pair select emergency responder agencies in the area each year and offer to provide the Thanksgiving meal to those working on the holiday. This year they selected Colleton County. They arrived at Fire-Rescue Station 19 (The Gene Whetsell Fire Station) with many pans of turkey, ham, side dishes and desserts. Along with the wonderful food, they also provided thank you cards prepared by elementary students from CPA. Each responder was given a thank you card with their meal. Food was provided for the Sheriff’s Deputies, those working in the jail, the 9-1-1 Communications Center, Fire-Rescue personnel and State Troopers. The men worked until 02:30 Thanksgiving morning preparing the meals and then drove them to Colleton County Thursday morning. It was a wonderful gesture and was much appreciated by the responders.
