On July 24 a fire destroyed the offices of Builders First Source Lumber Yard on Highway 174 at approximately 3 a.m. Friday July 24.
Edisto Beach Fire Department, along with St. Paul firefighters, fought the blaze for several hours that engulfed the front of the property containing offices and some equipment and supplies.
No one was injured in the fire, but the customer service/office building was completely destroyed.
“We successfully contained the fire at the entry building near the highway and kept it from spreading to the outlying lumber yard. While the loss of the million-dollar building is substantial, Chief Garvin of St. Paul’s Department and I are gratified that the rest of the lumber yard was saved. That would have resulted in losses of probably over $4 million,” said Chief Denny Conley of the Edisto Beach Fire Department.
