Starfish Awards
Town Council presented the Starfish Award to Assistant Fire Chief Ken Sallenger, who was nominated for the Starfish by Town resident Jeanine Rhodes for Ken’s assistance on August 6 when her dear friend and neighbor, Pat Stare, collapsed while cutting her grass. Ms. Rhodes and another individual were already administering CPR when Assistant Chief Sallenger arrived, but he stepped in to try and revive Mr. Stare. Mr. Stare did not survive, but Ms. Rhodes noted Ken’s great leadership and concern by taking over the task at the scene. He also called several times following that day to check on Mr. Stare’s wife and Ms. Rhodes. This care and concern and compassion meant so much to Mrs. Stare and Ms. Rhodes.
Town Council thanked Ken for his dedication and commitment to our Town residents.
A ceremonial swearing-in was held at the January 8th meeting for Officer Brian Dowdy, who joined the Edisto Beach Police Department in December. Welcome, Officer Dowdy!
