Dying for the Guilty

The book of Romans is a treasure chest of drawers full of truth. Chapter four offers us a reminder that Abraham, Father of the Hebrew nation, was justified NOT by keeping the Law (which had not yet been given), but because of his great faith in and obedience to God. It was God's grace that saved Him.

But chapter five verse eight is my favorite verse in this section. A simple translation would be: This is how God proved that He really loves us. While we were consumed with sinning, the Lord Jesus came and died for us.

"While we were still sinners..." Jesus died for you and me.

What love! What a Gift! What a sacrifice! And it demands a response. If you have not, would you place your faith in the Lord Jesus right now! The telic purpose of Paul’s letter to the Roman Church is remind them that God is the ultimate Judge of sin, that He wants to redeem/save as many as will trust and obey Him, and that He proved His great love for us by sending His only begotten Son to show us how to live, die on the cross taking the penalty of our sins, and rising on the third day to provide eternal life. That is one long sentence, but it is packed with truth. Do not trust good works, baptism, church membership, or anything else to get you to heaven. Place your trust in Jesus alone for your salvation. Obey Him in this life, and you will experience the abundant eternal life that He promises. (John 3:16; 10:10)
