Members of the Hiram E. Mann Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen and Boeing Corporation came to Northside Elementary School to bring their Dream Runners Program. Thomas Jackson the President of the Hirem E. Mann Chapter of the Tuskegee Airman explains, “We’re going to be like a mentoring, coaching as they share the program. We’re also giving a small presentation on the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, and the fact that the Tuskegee Airmen were actually here and trained at Walterboro. Northside Elementary is a fitting place to tell that story on the place where they were actually trained.”

Frank Hatton from Boeing Corporation came to the program and spoke about Boeing and its programs to assist the community. He also brought paper airplanes to build and fly. Members of the Airman assisted the students in building the airplanes.

Northside Elementary is located on the property where Anderson Field was located as a part of the Walterboro Army Airfield. This is now the Walterboro Airport.

Jackson adds, “We are trying to get into all of the community areas to be able to share that legacy and keep that legacy alive.
