We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father,
we too may live a new life.
Romans 6:2-4
Writing to the group of believers at Rome, Paul reminds the church of the spiritual transformations that accompany conversion. Salvation is not an external badge we wear while we continue to live
like we have always lived. True conversion brings about a change in who we are, what we believe, and how we live. Paul lists some of the new spiritual realities of a believer.
A believer is dead to sin. In fact, Paul asks, “how can welive in it any longer?” A person who has been born again in Jesus is no longer comfortable living in sin. They have had a change of heart. When a believer realizes that they have disobeyed God’s will for their lives, they confess their wrong to God and repent or turn away from that sin. This process of ongoing repentance is evidence of a changed
heart and a transformed life that growing closer to Christ. Christians aren’t perfect, but they are being perfected. Our culture has made the mistake of believing that we can claim to be a Christian while still being comfortable with sin. This is an unbiblical lie. Are you comfortable with sin in your life? Repent and turn from your sins. Believe in Jesus and surrender your life to his leadership.
Let Jesus be Lord of your life.
