Colleton County Fire-Rescue, Edisto Beach Fire, and Police Depts, were dispatched to Palmetto Blvd. for a person caught in a rip current. Fire-Rescue arrived to find the woman offshore. Crewmembers from Medic 14, both marines, donned life vests and entered the ocean. They swam out to the woman and pulled her to shore. Upon returning to the beach the woman stopped breathing. Firefighter-Paramedics successfully resuscitated victim and requested the CARE Flight medical helicopter. Edisto Beach Fire Dept placed her on an ATV to transport her off the beach and back to the waiting ambulance to meet with CARE Flight. She was flown to MUSC in Charleston.
