As colder weather approaches, the Walterboro Warming Center is preparing to open its doors once again—offering warmth, safety, and comfort to those in need. The center operates between December 1 and February 28, opening on nights when the temperature in the Walterboro area drops below 34°F.
Operated in partnership with In His Name–Colleton, St. Jude’s Church, and local community members, the Warming Center provides overnight shelter, hot meals, and essential support to individuals who might otherwise face dangerous conditions outdoors.
Since opening in 2023, the Walterboro Warming Center has provided refuge to more than 50 individuals, ensuring no one is left in the cold when temperatures fall.
This community effort depends entirely on volunteers, and there are many ways to get involved. Shifts are available for a variety of schedules, making it easy for individuals, families, and church groups to participate.
To volunteer visit the online sign-up link or contact Caroline Hooker at carolinehooker@gmail.com or 843-893-8118. Whether you can offer a few hours or an entire evening, your time and compassion help bring warmth, safety, and hope to our neighbors in need.
