Colleton Medical Center Celebrates New Name

The hospital lobby was full to overflowing with staff and fiends to celebrate the rebranding of Colleton Medical Center to HCA Healthcare Colleton Hospital. After a welcome by CEO of the hospital, Colin O’Sullivan and an invocation by the Pastor Eric Campbell, the President of the South Atlantic Division of HCA Healthcare Hugh Tappan had remarks to the crowd. Also addressing the attendees was Dr. Vonda Calcutt who is the hospital Board of Trustees Chairman and Missy Feather, who is the Chief Nursing Officer of the hospital had a special presentation thanking Janice Bryand for 48 years of service to the hospital.

One highlight of the program was the presentation of a $25,000 check to In His Name-Colleton. The HCA Healthcare’s contribution to In His Name will bring fresh produce directly to families in the Walterboro area. “Colleton County is facing real challenges in food access, and HCA Healthcare’s support allows us to bring fresh produce directly to the people who need it most,” said Amanda Herndon, Executive Director, In His Name-Colleton. “HCA Healthcare’s support allows In His Name-Colleton to expand access to fresh, healthy produce for families in Colleton County who are facing hunger. Nutritious food is essential to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, and this partnership helps us provide more than a meal—it provides dignity, hope, and long-term stability for our neighbors.”

Following the presentation to In His Name-Colleton, O’Sullivan unveiled the new name with a shower of confetti and applause.

Under the rebranding, in addition to the Colleton Medical Center, Trident Medical Center, Summerville Medical Center, Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness, Brighten Park Emergency, Center Point Emergency, Moncks Corner Medical Center, and James Island Emergency, will all be rebranded under the HCA Healthcare Banner. HCA said in a press release. “By consolidating under the HCA Healthcare name, we’re reinforcing our collective commitment to the communities we serve,” said Hugh Tappan. “For 50 years, our teams have served the people of Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, and Colleton Counties. We remain deeply rooted locally, while benefiting from the strength and capabilities of our broader system.” Colin O’Sullivan CEO of HCA Healthcare Colleton Hospital said, “We’ve gone back over the history, as we’re doing the rebranding, and the true legacy goes back almost 100 years. There are so many names that this hospital has had, this is more than a name. This is truly becoming more than just Colleton hospital. We are truly HCA. We’re becoming one across the whole Lowcountry. We have outreach all over the region that we’ve never had before that we’re able to bring back to this community. And that’s probably our greatest pride in all of this, is that now this community has more than just this hospital. They have the conglomerate of all of our HCA facilities in the area.”
