Colleton County School Board holds special meeting

The Colleton County School Board held a special meeting Thursday, June 8. Board members Murdaugh, Erwin, Stivender, Jones, Stroble, and Simmons were present. Board Member Witkin attended via phone conference. Immediately following approval of the agenda, the Board adjourned into executive session to discuss the agenda. On the agenda were the following items:

Discussion of and receipt of legal advice re: Superintendent’s resignation

Discussion of and receipt of legal advice re: contractual matter concerning Superintendent

Discussion of and receipt of legal advice re: hiring/appointment of Interim Superintendent

Discussion of employment matters re: hiring.

Upon returning to open session a motion was made to accept the recommendation for professional staff employment and recommendation for professional staff transfers for the 2023-2024 school year. The motion was seconded and unanimously carried.

The next item of business was a motion to appoint Jessica Williams as Interim Superintendent effective June 8, 2023. The motion was seconded and unanimously carried. Jessica Williams was named Interim Superintendent. Patricia Simmons acting as Chairperson gave Williams the full support of Board.

Lastly, the board made a motion for plans to begin to conduct a search for permanent superintendent in the upcoming month. The motion was seconded and unanimously carried.
