On August 31, 2023, at approximately 9:16 a.m. officers from the Walterboro Police Department responded to 202 Eddie Chasteen (Wells Fargo) for a strong-armed robbery. It was discovered that a civilian was exiting the bank with a money bag when he was approached by a black male suspect. The suspect began assaulting the victim in an attempt to take the money bag. Witnesses on scene saw the alteration and stepped in to help the victim. Witnesses and the victim were able to detain the subject until law enforcement arrived. The subject was arrested and transported to Colleton Medical Center for treatment and then transported to Colleton County Detention Center.
