Summer is just around the corner, and the Colleton County Memorial Library is ready to keep your family learning and entertained during those long, hot summer days!
The Summer Reading Kick-Off this year is on May 30, and features Bright Star Theatre’s amazing Dino Academy show. The doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the first 50 kids to register will get to adopt a free baby dinosaur reading buddy. This show is perfect for the whole family, so come early to get the best seat! After the kick-off, we’ve packed the calendar with fun programs for all of June and July. If you have little ones headed to kindergarten in the fall, join us on Tuesday mornings for Kindergarten Confidence to make sure they have those classroom skills on lock. Got an emerging reader who’s going into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grades? Tuesday afternoons are for Summer Reading Lab, where we will read stories, play games, and do hands-on activities to strengthen reading skills all summer long. Teenagers? Wednesday nights will feature Life Skills Academy, where we will explore budgeting, voting, employment skills, applying for college, and cooking skills. Friday nights, join us for tons of fun activities at Teen Lock-Ins! Adults, there are also many opportunities for you to have fun and learn a new skill this summer, too. The Mobile Library Team will also be bringing amazing and fun programs to parks all around Colleton County, so be on the lookout for the Mobile Library, Lula Petunia!
To keep kids and teens reading all summer, we are offering weekly prizes for meeting their reading goal, so make sure your kids don’t miss out! Adults, try our Summer Reading BINGO sheets and see what you can win! To celebrate 250 years of the United States, we have two challenges. Read Across the USA and earn prizes or find 25 of the 50 Digby dinosaurs hidden across Colleton County for a cool patriotic prize. We hope to see you at your library this summer!
