A Colleton County Deputy was attempting to perform a traffic stop on the driver of a vehicle when they led the deputy on a chase with speeds reaching over 105 mph.

In the very early morning hours of Friday, November 10, a Colleton County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a car moving erratically on Burlington Road causing the deputy to suspect the driver might be “under the influence of alcohol”. When the deputy commenced a traffic stop the driver raced away initiating a high speed chase. The driver then ran off the road when they lost control of the car and subsequently hit a tree. The car then caught on fire and proceeded to become engulfed in flames. Colleton County Fire and Rescue pronounced the driver deceased on scene. Any further details will be reported upon release.
