Bee City Christmas

Posted

Christmas is always the time of year to spend some time with family, and a great place for an evening adventure here in our own backyard is Bee City Zoo. This month’s Day Trippin’ is on the Bee City Zoo Christmas Light Festival.

This is the fourth annual Christmas Light Festival at Bee City. We start the week before Thanksgiving and operate Wednesday through Sunday until December 30th.

The festival started as a COVID project to open after the prolonged shutdown. The festival was highly successful and now is in its fourth year as still growing.

The zoo is open during the day, but the magic begins when the sun goes down. There is a day and night combo ticket if you want to enjoy the park both and night. Once the transition to night occurs, they start making smores. There is also a fried everything truck that serves all sorts of fun food. They have funnel cakes, elephant ears, fried Oreos, red velvet Oreos, Twinkies, you name it. They have a cafe on site that has food. There is hot chocolate all over the park. Once you have your hot chocolate, Santa Claus is at the park to have your pictures taken. You can take all the pictures you would like with Santa Claus and if you want to you can take a picture with furry friends, including a kangaroo.

The park has 3 million lights in the park this year. They have wrapped everything with lights. Owner Scott Biering says, “Some of the animals are too fast so they don’t have lights on them.” They have professional commercial displays throughout the park, and a winter wonderland ride that is an eight-acre wagon ride where they produce a winter wonderland.

At Bee City you are able to interact with the animals. You can feed giraffes and other animals. The animals are more than happy to see you and there’s plenty other animals to get to know.

Biering says, “We have an amazing piece of the family here. It’s our staff. We focus on a good time, so we’re geared up here to help you get the experience you want. The customer comes in to spend time with their family. We focus on that. Forget the troubles of the day. Enjoy your family and create a new family tradition for Christmas.”
