A Vermont man was fatally injured when he was struck by a pickup truck in the 2000 block of ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy 17) just south of Wiggins Road Saturday morning June 13th. The man was wearing all black clothing and walking in the southbound lane of the highway. The rural section of the highway has no street lighting, and the area was dark. A south bound Toyota pickup truck did not see the man and struck him in the travel lanes. The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was thrown to the south bound shoulder near the wood line. The pickup truck suffered heavy damage and was not drivable. The driver was not injured. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later, but the injured man suffered fatal injuries and had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
