The American Legion Post 93 of Walterboro partners with the Ladies Auxiliary of post 93 annually to send qualified students to South Carolina Palmetto Boys State, Girls State, and the Nathan M. Wolfe Law Enforcement Academy. Our post has a long standing history of sponsoring youth programs that benefit Colleton County. Each spring, outstanding students are chosen from the junior classes at Colleton County High School and Colleton Preparatory Academy to participate in this exceptional program. Selections are based upon demonstration of high standards for leadership, character, honesty, scholarship, cooperativeness, maturity, interest in government, and desire to participate. Selected delegates attend a one week program, along with representatives from high schools all over the state to immerse themselves in programs about government, community networking, self-realization, growth, leadership and education, the lessons learned in Americanism and citizenship during this period set the tone for their future as responsible adults in our community.
The cost of this program for our quotas of attendees is not borne by the students. It is paid through fundraising by the Walterboro American post. 93 plus donations solicited from our local businesses, industries and individuals in Colleton County. The cost to send a male to Boys state is $400, a female to Girls state is $490, and students to the Law Enforcement Academy is $250. Therefore, WE NEED YOUR HELP to keep this program viable and to continue our 60 plus years of success in this important and valuable educational youth program. So PLEASE make a commitment our youth and help with your donation. Our goal is to raise funds by the 31st of March 2026 WE THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your generosity and support.
