A Conscious, Reasoned Submission

Reading the Bible through with me? Then grab your pen and journal and read Job 31-33. In his final defense of his purity, Job talks about his covenant with God with his eyes. He refused to look at a woman lustfully. He refused to look at his neighbors with envy. In this chapter alone, he addresses numerous sins of which he is NOT guilty. He included dishonesty, adultery, neglecting the needy, trusting in money, idolatry, greed, and hypocrisy. Job had made a conscious, reasoned decision to live his life to please God. Now he was carefully, prayerfully examining his life to be certain he was living a life that would glorify God.

Nowadays, far too many people equate pleasing God with church attendance and giving. For too many, salvation is more about what they do and don’t do than what Jesus has already done for them. Ephesians 2:8-10 tells us that we are “…saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” Jesus has taken care of the salvation by grace part. Our part is to trust and obey Him by doing the good works that He has planned for us.

Have you heard the voice of God calling you to repentance and faith? Have you made that conscious, reasoned choice to follow Jesus wholeheartedly? Is it now your desire to live a life that honors God? Think about it! Honoring God on your job, in your school, in your home, through your marriage, in your Hunt club, or on your vacation, Just living in a way that brings God glory and honor. It is possible IF you have the will!
