Williams named interim Superintendent

The Colleton County School Board has named Jessica Williams as the interim Superintendent in a unanimous vote. The next item of business was a motion to appoint Jessica Williams as Interim Superintendent effective June 8, 2023. The motion was seconded and unanimously carried naming Jessica Williams Interim Superintendent. Patricia Simmons acting as Chairperson gave Williams the full support of Board.

Jessica Williams is a native of Colleton County. She has served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction since July 2018. Prior to this position, she served as Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of Elementary Education for the Colleton County School District. During 34 years of service to the district, she has served the district as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. During her tenure as Principal of Hendersonville Elementary School, the school achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and was also recognized by the South Carolina State Department of Education as a Red Carpet School. Mrs. Williams worked to build positive school-community relationships as well as provide a positive school environment conducive. Mrs. Williams has co-written grants to enhance STEM experiences for elementary students in the district through the First Lego League Robotics Program. Additionally, under her leadership, the district was awarded grants to enhance summer literacy programs. She taught elementary music for 19 years at Forest Hills Elementary School and during her career as a music teacher, she was named Teacher of the Year for her dedication to the profession and her passion for excellence.
