When Being Thankful isn’t Easy

“Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, Psalm 50:14

Most of the time, it is easy for us to be grateful to God. There are lots of days that are a display of God’s love, blessings, and care. Sometimes, we just feel surrounded by God’s love and it is easy to tell God, “thank you.”

But there are also days God’s goodness is not as visible to us as on other days. There are occasions that test our faith and we cannot see any sign of God’s kindness. We all go through hardships we just don’t understand.

This text speaks to those dark days we all experience. When it is difficult to be grateful, we must sacrificially praise Him for His goodness. It takes very little effort on your part to be grateful to God when everything is going right in your life and you’ve got no worries,. This text teaches us that on days where thankfulness is nearly impossible to make the sacrifice, exercise the effort, and find a way to thank God even when life hurts. This separates the weak Christian from those who are mature in their faith. The strong believer knows that the most precious worship is born out of hard times. When we are exhausted, discouraged, and suffering, we have an opportunity to express the depths of our gratitude to the One who died to save us.

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for thanking You mostly when I feel like it. Help me to know that You are good even when I don’t see it. Help me to be grateful to You even when I don’t feel like being grateful. Help me to make the effort to worship You. Thank You for all You have done for me. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
