“At certain times in life, we may feel insignificant and useless. Surrounded by people with greater talent than ours, we are tempted in our weak moments just to settle back and let somebody else do the work. We reason that what we have to offer won’t make much difference anyway. We forget the truth suggested by our Lord’s use of five loaves and two small fish to feed a multitude (John 6:1-14). Each of us has something important to offer in His service.
“Sir Michael Costa was conducting a rehearsal in which the orchestra was joined by a great chorus. About halfway through the session, with trumpets blaring, drums rolling, and violins singing their rich melody, the piccolo player muttered to himself, ‘What good am I doing? I might just as well not be playing. Nobody can hear me anyway.’ So he kept the instrument to his mouth, but he made no sound.
“Within moments, the conductor shouted, ‘Stop! Stop! Where’s the piccolo?’ It was missed by the ear of the most important person of all. It’s much the same way with the use of our abilities for the Lord. Whether our talent is great or small, the performance isn’t complete until we do our best with what we have” (Heaven’s Inspirations).
God created us to glorify and praise Him; therefore, we all have a part to play in what God expects from us. I have had the gift of singing practically all my life. I sang in choirs ever since childhood. In my later years, I did not use my gift as I had done in the past. My mother would tell me, “If you don’t use that talent, God is going to take it from you.” What my mother said is confirmed in Matthew 25:29 (ESV): “For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” There was a time that I began having so much trouble with my singing voice, and it seemed that I would never sing the way that I use to again. I kept trying, and slowly my singing voice returned very close to its previous quality. Now, I sing praises to God, even if it is just in my home! In 2015 I began to use another talent, that God gave me, more than I had ever done before. One of my college professors showed me decades ago that I have a gift for writing. I used this gift, but not to my best for God’s glory until I started writing for The Press in 2015, and I love it! Many of my readers have told me how my writings inspire them, but I owe it all to the Glory of God because it’s for Him.
Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
