Unlikely Heroes of Faith

Reading the Bible through with me? Then grab your pen and journal and read 1 Chronicles 25-27. More lists of names. In chapter 26, we get to know Obed-Edom. He was a loyal servant of David. When David mishandled the transport of the Ark of God, resulting in Uzziah’s death, they left the Ark at Obed-Edom’s place. It was there for only three months when a report to the king said that Yahweh abundantly blessed Obed-Edom. In 26:4-8, we read a list of Obed-Edom’s eight sons and their character qualities. The author described them as men of courage, persistence, ability, and hard work. These were men of faith who took responsibility seriously, had the fortitude to stand firm in their faith, courage to stand under stress, and worked tirelessly using their gifts, skills, and experience to fulfill their roles in Yahweh’s plan.

Lord, we need more men like the descendants of Obed-Edom. Men, would you pray that God will help you to be that kind of man? Whether you are older or younger, be a godly man. Ladies, would you pray that God will make your husband or future husband into that kind of man? Parents and grandparents, would you pray that God will help you to raise up mighty men and women of God as warriors for His cause? We do not need more culture warriors. Jesus did not die to redeem cultures. He died to redeem individuals. His command to His followers was not to change their culture. It was to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, and teaching them to obey all that He commands of us. God our Father, raise up men and women in our nation who will stand on the truth of Your word, obey you even under fire, and speak Your truth with love and conviction.
