Two mobile homes were destroyed in an early morning fire January 22nd. The fire occurred on Michelle Lane south of Cottageville. A resident called 9-1-1 reporting a building on fire when they saw flames through the woods. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived to find two singlewide mobile homes fully involved. The roof on each had already collapsed and the surrounding woods were on fire. Firefighters had problems reaching the remote buildings, which were located well off of the road. Firefighter-Paramedics were able to prevent the woods fire from reaching a home on the adjacent property. The mobile homes were unoccupied, and it took firefighters about three hours on the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
