Tuesdays Storms cause Damage and Power Outages

County, State DOT, Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire-Rescue personnel were out with winches and chainsaws removing trees from the Colleton County roads to get traffic moving. At one point during the storm, 65% of the county was without power. Coastal Electric Cooperative and Dominion Energy was able to restore power to most residents fairly quickly.

Wind was the biggest problem with the downed trees with several homes sustaining trees damage. There were four accidents where people collided with downed trees resulting in no injuries. The County opened the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during the storm but was able to resume normal operations after 6pm. County offices closed at noon and the County Council meeting was cancelled. Some county roads flooded but cleared quickly once the rain stopped. There were no major injuries related to the storm in Colleton County.
