The Board of Trustees of the Colleton Memorial Library and the “Friends of the Library” co-hosted an appreciation reception for retiring Shiela Keaise, long-time children’s librarian, Saturday, April 29.

Miss Shiela or Ms. Literacy has served the children of the county for more than two decades with storytelling at the library, on a local TV show, and on YouTube. She has also authored more than a dozen children’s books available at most book outlets. She served the first decade with former library director Sylvia Rowe Rowland and the last decade with Carl Coffin, current director.

Both Janis Blocker, chair of the library board, and Katrina Reeves, president of the “Friends of the Library,” praised her work and commitment to the children of the community.

“Shiela set a high standard for children’s services in our county,” said Blocker. “Her influence has had such a positive and lasting impact.”

“Ms Shiela created a nurturing environment for children to learn about their world through books and music,” said Reeves.
