At 12:52 Friday afternoon 05-May, a person came to Fire Station 18 reporting a man trapped under a log trailer on Hope Lane about 1/2 mile from the station. Engine 18 and Medic 18 arrived minutes later to find an adult male with his arm crushed under a flatbed semi-trailer. The man had been performing maintenance on the trailer when it shifted and fell on him. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man under the trailer, which included bleeding control and pain management. A medical helicopter was requested and Meducare responded to the field in front of Bells Elementary School. CARE Flight was on another assignment. Crews cribbed the trailer in place and used Holmatro high pressure and low pressure air bags to lift the trailer off of the man. He received a partial amputation and was transported emergent to meet with Meducare. The patient was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
