Keep Walterboro Beautiful was this past Friday, April 21.

The program started in 2018 and is part of the national Keep America Beautiful project. Both are tied in with Earth Day, which was this past Saturday, April 22.

In Walterboro, city employees make up the main task force. Where they were sent to pick up trash was based upon what department they worked in. They were joined by volunteers.

“We had a total of 35 volunteers,” said Dana A. Cheney, executive director of Keep Walterboro Beautiful. That number included city employees, Keep Walterboro Beautiful board members, and private citizens.

Among the volunteers was Carolyn Burns. Taking part this year mattered to her.

“I’ve always been concerned about the environment,” she said as she explained why she chose to participate.
