First LEGO® League Challenge

Colleton County Middle School hosted the “Ace Basin Qualifier Tournament (Qualifying Event)” for first LEGO® League Challenge on Saturday, December 9, 2023. A total of 24 teams from Colleton County and neighboring school districts participated in the competition. Team 9502 (Master-Mind Cougars) from Colleton County Middle School was chosen to advance to the East Regional Tournament on January 20, 2024 hosted by Cane Bay High School in Summerville, SC. Team 9502 consists of 7 members, Gerryn Brown (6th grade), Abigail Sherrill (6th grade), Alysia Oswell (7th grade), Alaya Brown (7th grade), Na’Ziyah Washington (8th grade), Skyler Mishoe (8th grade), and Tyler Causey (8th grade). These students worked hard within the areas of Core Values, Robot Design, Innovation Projects, and Robot games to advance to the next level. They are looking to advance from the East Regional Tournament to the State Tournament and then to the National Tournament. The students are also looking for local sponsors to help them complete their task to move forward. The coaches for the Colleton County Middle School include: Nakita Holmes, Marilen Gabriel, Alice Willams, and Ravi Dewangan. They have worked extremely hard in preparing the students for competition. There were two other teams within the district to receive awards; Bells Elementary Bear Bots received the Core Values award and Hendersonville Rumble Bees received the Judging Award.

A Special “Thank You” to Mr. Ed Williams (Director of Robotics) for Colleton County. Mr. Williams shows dedication and unwavering commitment to make sure every school in Colleton has a successful Robotics program. He made the necessary adjustments to his schedule to support Cottageville, Bells, Forest Hills, Hendersonville, Northside, and Colleton County Middle School for the success in the FLL qualifiers which took place December 9, 2023. Mr. Williams has also given his weekends to Colleton County High to prepare them for robotics competitions. The Colleton County School District would like to thank the community for their ongoing support of the robotics program in the district. We look forward to the continued success and growth of our students as they continue to strive for excellence.
