A Ridgeville man was killed, and a Walterboro woman was critically injured in a two car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Round O Road and Augusta Highway (SC Hwy 61) Monday evening June 19. A Ford Crown Victoria from Round O Road collided with a Chevrolet Suburban on Augusta Highway causing heavy damage to both vehicles. Upon collision the cars entered the ditch and struck several trees. None of the occupants in either vehicle were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Ford was deceased and trapped in the wreckage. The front seat passenger in the Suburban was ejected from the SUV and found critically injured on the shoulder of the road. The driver of the SUV suffered multiple traumatic injuries as well. A canine in the SUV was also injured. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the injured persons at the scene, then transported the two female occupants of the Suburban to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Two deputies attended to the canine until Animal Services arrived and transported the dog. The Colleton County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and transported the driver of the Ford. Augusta Hwy at Round O Road was closed for three hours until SCHP completed their investigation, and the accident was cleared.
