Council Members Travel to National League of Cities

The National League of Cities celebrated its 100-year anniversary (1924-2024) at the Congressional City Conference in Washington, DC, March 10-13, 2024. President Joe Biden was the keynote speaker for the opening session and Pete Buttigieg, US Secretary of Transportation, gave opening remarks at a later session.

On Capitol Hill day, the Walterboro City Council delegation met with elected US congressmen and several members of their executive staff and held informative discussions. During the visit with Congressman James Clyburn, he informed the group that Lowcountry Regional Airport has been awarded a $500,000 grant for the airport runway rehabilitation project.

Likewise, in our individual conferences with Senators Tim Scott and Lindsay Graham, City Council members discussed local needs and projects and were offered suggested resources of funding. In Senator Scott’s office, we were privileged to meet with Joshua Grant, who Councilman Broderick knows as a former student in Colleton County Schools. Joshua recently has been named Legislative Director. He previously served as the Policy Director for Tim Scott for America, and as the Senator’s Senior Advisor. He plans to visit the Lowcountry soon to see his mother Diane Grant, who lives in White Hall.
