The Colleton County Cougar varsity boys basketball team lost a close game against May River High School (76-70) on Friday, January 21 at home.
The Cougars are currently 5-10 overall and 1-6 in Region VII-AAAA.
Colleton County came out hot and led 24-21 at the end of the first quarter. The Sharks scored 30 points in the second period to take a 51-32 lead heading into the half. The Cougars outscored May River in the final half of the game but could not overcome the 19-point deficient from the first half.
The Cougars were led by Deshaun Blocker with 26 points.
Brian Hamilton and Mykeem Gant both added 16 points. Other scoring included Nick Williams 6, Dashawn McNeil 2, Kenny Hand 1, and Tyshawn Hundley 1.
May River was led by Blocker with 30 points. Other scoring included Layman 17, Douglas 10, Cash 6, Vanesselkin 6, Evander 3, Lancaster 2, and Jones 1.
Colleton County was scheduled to host Lucy Beckham on Tuesday, January 25 before traveling to Hilton Head High School on Friday, January 28.
