Cottageville Elementary School held a 5K Eagle Run on Saturday, April 9. The school has promoted healthy life choices for the past several years. Sponsoring a running club is just part of the ways the school is looking to improve the health of the students, parents and community.
Sarah Fielder is the head of the running club at Cottageville Elementary. “We had 94 participants in this year’s run. All proceeds went directly to our running club,” said Fielder.

Cottageville’s running club began in the spring of 2017.
A group of teachers were spending their afternoons walking around the bus loop and wanted give students the opportunity to do the same. “We wanted to give students a safe place to run with their friends after school. Over the years our club has grown with the number of students who participate. We have also been able to incorporate a community 5K, which gives the students something to work towards,” said Fielder.
Running club is only available to grades 3-5 students at Cottageville Elementary. Currently, running club meets on Wednesdays. In the spring, the school has a competitive running club that meets twice a week.
