Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society holds annual meeting

Posted

The Bedon-Lucas house was buzzing with activity as the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society (CCHAPS) held their annual meeting on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Members of the society filled the meeting space and listened as outgoing President Sarah Miller reported on all the events the non-profit organization participated in over the past year those being community outreach, fund raisers, programs and the annual preservation awards just to name a few.

Miller reported on two grants received over the past year. The first is a grant to help the Bedon-Lucas House become accessible to more people thru technology and signage on the property. The second is a grant for the stabilization and preservation of Pon Pon Chapel of Ease located in Jacksonboro. Both projects are well underway and will be beneficial for the community.

The annual meeting is not only for reviewing the past and sharing future goals but is also used to hold the annual elections. Names for open positions had been received by the 2023 CCHAPS board of directors from the nominating committee and were previously mailed to the 2023 member of the society.
