Colleton County Chapter of the SCEA-Retired Participated in Read Across America at Low Country CAA Head Start

Posted

Last Thursday morning Low Country CAA Head Start was the scene of reading and more reading to the students, with plenty of excitement, in celebration of Read Across America, by members of the Colleton County Chapter of the South Carolina Education Association-Retired! This organization has been participating in this special reading program at this school in Cottageville for a number of years and looks forward to returning every year. The classrooms and hallways are so inviting as soon as you walk into the building. It is clearly obvious that the students are interested in learning at a very young age as evidenced by their responses to those members who read to them. Hats off to the teachers and administrators! The following professionals are the school’s administrative staff: Senekita Farmer (Early / Head Start Director), Stacey Cox (Cottageville Center Director), and Carmen Salley (Education Manager).

Members of The SCEA-Retired stay connected with other retired professionals by attending local retired association meetings where we fellowship with other retirees, volunteer with community service projects, participate in The SCEA-Retired Leadership/Membership Conference in August, participate in The SCEA-Retired Delegate Assembly in October, and attend The SCEA-Retired Annual Convention in April. The SCEA-Retired Legislative Program addresses the need for retired public school educators to actively advocate for education and benefits for retirees.

The Colleton County Chapter consists of the following officers and members: Mary Reed (President), Retired CDR Charlie Armentrout (Vice President), Willie Rabb (Secretary), Sally Stephens (Treasurer), Ester Black (Chaplain), Vera Bodison (Representative for SCEA-R), Deborah Skoland, Margaret Roberts, Gloria Robinson, Leila Williams, Gloristine Williams, Celia Price, Priscilla McClellan, Mary Jones, Harry Jenkins, Gloria Breland, Gloria Bradley, Raul Bradley, Lula Smalls, Anna Bright, and Herman Bright. Public school retirees (administrators, teachers, teacher assistants, and others) are invited to join The South Carolina Education Association-Retired.
