In a monumental act of charity Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home and Steedley Monument Works have donated their time and money to restore Ackerman Cemetery in Cottageville after it was vandalized in early December 2023. The companies paid over $7,000 to remount the bases of the grave markers. Danny Dandridge, a trustee and treasurer of the cemetery commented while there was still anger about the situation it was a good feeling to see the cemetery restored so close to as it was.
According to the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office Eric Cole Melton, the adult arrested for the desecration for the cemetery, is to appear in court February 16 at the Colleton County Courthouse. The investigation regarding the two minors is ongoing and cannot be commented on.
