CCHS Girls runner-up in tournament

The Colleton County girls basketball team hosted a pre-Christmas tournament at the “Cougar Den” on Wednesday, Dec. 21 and Thursday, Dec. 22. The Lady Cougars finished in second place losing the championship game to Fort Dorchester. The tournament included Fort Dorchester, Colleton County, Hanahan and Baptist Hill.

The first game of the tournament featured Hanahan against Fort Dorchester. The Patriots proved to be too much for the Hawks as they came away with an impressive 52-19 win to advance to the finals of the tournament.

The second game of the tournament featured Colleton County against Baptist Hill. The Cougars lead 25-5 at half-time and cruised to a 44-16 win to advance the finals against Fort Dorchester. The Cougars were led by Heaven Green with 17 points and McKayla Brown with 10 points.

The second night featured Hanahan playing Baptist Hill. The Bobcats would claim third place in the tournament by defeating the Hawks 34-18.

The Patriots and Cougars squared off in the championship game. The Patriots took control of the game early jumping out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Patriots continued to outscore the Cougars and took a commanding 30-8 lead at half-time. The Patriots then outscored the Cougars 39-15 in the second half to win easily 69-23 securing the tournament champions. The Cougars were led by Shandi Brown with 15 points.

The Cougars’, Heaven Green and McKayla Brown represented Colleton County on the all-tournament team. Fort Dorchester’s, Kwai White and Denver Mathis, along with Hanahan’s Ashtyn Adams and Baptist Hills’ Shanal Townsend rounded out the all-tournament team.

With the tournament games, CCHS record now stands at 3-10 going into the Christmas Break.

The CCHS boys are scheduled to play in a tournament in North Charleston on Tuesday, Dec. 27 and Friday, Dec. 28. The boys record currently stands at 6-4.
