Beautiful Weekend for the King Celebrations

A number of events were held to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, on Saturday, January 13 the Colleton County NAACP presented “King Day at the House” on the grounds of the Colleton County Courthouse. The event was entitled “Spreading Unity in Colleton County” and included comments from 17 officials and citizens of Colleton County. Speakers included Steve Murdaugh, Chairman of County Council, Wade Marvin, Walterboro Police Chief, Jessica William, Interim Superintendent of Colleton County Schools, numerous fraternity and sorority representatives, Edward Williams, President of the Colleton County Chapter of the NAACP, and was concluded with a Keynote speech by Dr. Kylon Jerome Middleton, Pastor of the Mt. Zion AME Church.

On Sunday afternoon, the Walterboro Temple of Arabian Temple #139 held its MLK Parade featuring Mrs. Anna Bright as the Marshall. Herman G Bright welcomed 76 entries to the Parade this year. The parade winners this year included Original Float, Colleton Honor Guard, Commercial Float, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Walking Unit, First Place, Knights of Pythagoras. The All-Other Units Category went to Colleton Travel Cheerleaders.
