Artisans Center Adds New Artists

The South Carolina Artisans Center, which is the official Folk Art and Craft Center for South Carolina designated by the General Assembly, is pleased to announce the addition of 21 gifted new artists during their Fall 2022 & Spring 2023 Call for Entry.

The artists come from 8 different counties around the state and their art medium ranges from painting to steel sculpture. "We are very excited about the wealth of talent and creativity among this group of artists and their interest in becoming a part of the Center." said David Smalls, executive director of the South Carolina Artisans Center. All of the artwork was reviewed by independent judges through a two-stage process in the areas of craftsmanship, design, concept, creativity and originality.

The list of new artists along with their medium and county location are as follows: Frank Anson, wood turning, Beaufort; Daniel Covin, wood carving, Beaufort; Carolanne Call, acrylic, Colleton; Jo-Ann Close, acrylic, Charleston; Timothy Dillinger, wood carving, Colleton; Diane Downey, fiber art, Colleton; John Paul Downey, wood carving, Colleton; Elizabeth Edwards, ceramics, Richland; Jennifer Evans, acrylic, Dorchester; Sherry Glaab, stained glass, Charleston; Linda Goldberg, ceramics, Beaufort; Steve Goldberg, stone carving, Beaufort; Deidre Haynes, shell art, Aiken; Amy Kesten, acrylic, Dorchester; Polly Li, weaving, Beaufort; Yvonne Mazzell, jewelry, Charleston; Maddalena Michetti, fused glass & jewelry, Charleston; Sara Powell, glass and tile mosaic, Berkeley; June Scangarello, photography, Charleston; Lynne Trotter, photography, Lexington; Tracy Walden, steel, Beaufort.

Selected pieces of the new artists' artwork are now on display at the Center, located at 318 Wichman Street, Walterboro. The hours of operation are 9:00 am- 5:00 pm Monday- Saturday.

The primary mission of the South Carolina Artisans Center is to showcase and market the handcrafted work of our state's leading artists, while ensuring that art inspired by tradition is protected and nurtured.
