An adult male was transported to trauma center after being ejected from a car that struck a tree Sunday morning Oct. 30.

At 2:04 a.m., 9-1-1 was notified of the accident in the 15000 block of Lowcountry Hwy. (U.S. Hwy. 21) south of Bells Crossroads. The southbound 1989 Corvette lost control in a curve, overcorrected and crossed to the northbound side of the road. The vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, struck a large pine tree.

The car received heavy damage, flipped over and ejected the driver. He was found semi-conscious in the woods near the car.

Bystanders provided aid prior to the arrival of Fire-Rescue units. Firefighter-paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested a medical helicopter, but due to poor weather conditions, no helicopters could fly.

The man was transported in Fire-Rescue Medic 18 with additional firefighter-paramedics on board to assist with his care. He was transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
