A pickup truck driver was seriously injured in a high speed single vehicle accident on Quail Drive, August 14th. The small Chevrolet pickup was traveling northbound on Quail Drive when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, over-corrected, and lost control of the vehicle. The small truck crossed both lanes of traffic twice, entered the southbound ditch, and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was trapped in the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics from Colleton County Fire-Rescue extricated the driver with spinal precautions and transported him to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew of CARE Flight and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
